School problems of pupil and methods of their solution

01 september, 2016

“Assigning homework, the teachers have designs on pupils, but fall into parents.”

Georges Simenon

The summer is over. It's time to go to school. And in front of parents and their children arise old school problems. Let us refresh memory about them, to adapt to the new regime and easily to start a new school year.

Mental workload and physical activity

Failure of going to school can be caused by accumulated exhaustion due to the large number of classes, homework, lessons in project groups and lack of sleep. This can lead not only to a decrease of memory, attention and working capacity, but also to nervous breakdown in childhood.

The reason for the educational retardation may also serve the physical condition of the child, namely the weakening of the organism or disease. It can promote the appearance of indifference to study, unwillingness to overcome the difficulties.

How to help

You need to make the correct day regimen, to provide a child 9-10 hours of sleep, a healthy nutrition with vitamins and microelements (exclude chips, rusks, fizzy drinks, etc.), walking outdoors in any weather. Doing homework, make sure relaxing breaks.

If possible, at first time of adaptation of the child at school to give up on some project groups. Those project groups that you leave to visit should be just with physical activity that the child can not only throw out the excess energy boost, but also simply switch from mental activity. Visit the pool boosts well the immune system and physically develops a child.

Also, decrease the load on the child can be the reduction of hours he spent front of the TV and computer. It is better to spend time with your child, walking outdoors, or put him to bed earlier, thereby allocating more time on his dream.

Relations in the class collective

As is known, the school attracts not only knowledge, but also communicating with peers. And it may happen that your child could not immediately join the class collective or at a certain stage became an outcast. Even worse, when he becomes a victim of aggression.

In this case, the child simply cannot sensibly manage their emotions and react sharply and inadequate to provocations. Sometimes it does not avoid a fight with offenders.

How to help

Do not run to the school right away to sort out the relations with the offenders of your child, it is not going to help. It is necessary to listen to and support the child. To tell how you came out of such situations. Explain that when you are insulted, it does not need to show that you are hurt by words heard. If the attacks do not stop and turn into bullying, the need to teach the child to answer the offender.

If the attacks do not stop and turn into bullying, it is necessary to teach the child to answer the offender. If it is necessary, to resort to blows. If you do not have the strength to rebut physically, you must learn to protect yourself by the word. Come up with your child such a response, which could in a trice knock down the offender a peg. If your child is modest or for some different reason is not able to answer the offender by word or deed, then ask for help from the teacher (class teacher) of his class. He will quickly fix this problem.

Bringing up a child's self-confidence, create the conditions for communication and friendship with classmates (invite on the child's birthday his classmates).

The conflict with the teacher

It happens that a child refuses to go to school because of a teacher. This happens when a teacher excessively shows his authoritarian, impose his opinion, miscalls children, humiliates or even intimidates.

How to help

If the great deal of the pupils express the similar complaints, refuse to go to school, it is necessary to coordinate this with other parents, to express their dissatisfaction in conversations at teacher-parent meeting, in collective complaints.

If your child has a conflict with a teacher, you should certainly talk to your offspring and teacher. In a private conversation with the teacher, do not blame him, but just listen to what you and your child should hack up.

Picky parents

If you scold your child for marks, for each offense at school, starve a child of his favorite activities, you made the hell out of the learning process. Focusing on the high marks may serve as a low motivation to learn. Perhaps you have "Straight-A student" syndrome?!

How to help

Change your attitude to marks as an indicator of knowledge. Marks are important, but they do not always reflect the level of knowledge of the child. Remember yourself at that age. Did everything come natural and simple to you?

Be patient and help your child in those subjects where has decreased his academic performance. Maybe you should ask for help from a tutor.

Talk with the child in a temperate manner, calm and gently.

Difficulties in study

Reluctance to go to school can cause underachievement. The child cannot be given the exact sciences or conversely humanities, which leads to loss of self-confidence, decrease of interest to study, the general demotivation.

How to help

To solve this problem involve teachers and tutors. Check homework. Develop memory, reading together the books and retelling them. Draw a simple picture and ask a child a bit look at the picture, repeat it.

In your relations with the child adhere to the "positive models" (positive thinking). Praise, in each case, when the child deserves it, emphasize his successes. It will help to strengthen the child's self-confidence and return motivation to school.

School truancies

If the child begins to skip class, ask the reason of his truancies. Whereby, not reproaching him. The main reason of truancies is the complexity of any discipline, get bored at a lesson, fatigue, problems in class collective, but often it is just pure laziness.

Laziness, in overwhelming number of cases, develops in children in a family, where environment is insufficient "cognitive". As a cultural leisure, they prefer the television, computer games, the Internet. There is no aspiration to reception of knowledge, which suggests work (reading books, traveling with interesting discoveries and new knowledge during excursions, etc.).

How to help

Develop an interest to study, telling where and how a child can apply his knowledge. If truancies are related to the complexity of understanding of any discipline, ask for help from a tutor, if you are not able to help the child.

Spend more time with your child, play in developing games with him (tic-tac-toe, puzzles, etc.), and walked together outdoors, join the child to cultural events (visit the theater, cinema, museum). In general, undertake everything to make as little as possible to leave the child alone with the TV and the computer.

Lack of motivation

Poor motivation to study or complete lack thereof is also one of the factors leading to underachievement. For juniors, the concept of motivation is unclear and uncertain, because they study unconsciously. But for the seniors, motivation acquires a meaning closer to the graduating class. At this age, the child starts to think about entering a college or university, material prosperity, future achievements. But more often there are situations when school knowledge are not considered among teenagers as a means of achieving of their aims. Frequently, it is the parents’ fault, who even before graduation from the school, determine in what college or university will their child study (or in which country) and what the profession will he get, regardless of school achievement.

How to help

Keep track of passiveness of child to homework, ask him about the reasons of his disinterest in the school program. If you understand that the child does not see any sense in school knowledge and applied of its application, so try to explain how important it will be in the future for him.

It is necessary to get something across to the teenager that studying of different subjects at school brings not only a variety of knowledge, but also teaches of different methods of solving logical problems, develop different abilities, memory, attention.

In no case do not tell your child that despite how he will graduate from the school, you can help with entry to the college or university, will pay for study or fix up for a prestigious job without any problems. The teenager must clearly see problem, be aware of the problem, do not be afraid of them, try to solve them by yourself.

Give a child a scare that without the knowledge obtained in school, he cannot find a worthy work, provide the material prosperity of his family, realize his dreams and achieve his aims.

School misbehavior

Aside from described problems of underachievement should be allocated the violation of the child's behavior. Especially strong, it appears at teenage age, which is considered difficult in education.

Misbehavior of child in this case can be expressed in a rough behavior with teachers and peers, refusal to fulfill the requirements of the elders, indifference to the opinion of teachers, ignoring of the requirements and standards of the school.

How to help

Pay more attention to your child; behave with him discreetly. Try to understand objectively the reasons of conflict. Not only listen to what the child says but also express your own opinion about this, give a sensible advice that can be applied.

Make a positive and favorable climate in the family (do not quarrel, do not yell, do not swear), because a child frequently copies the relationships in his own family, and communication style of his parents. Show it by your example how you must behave in a particular situation.

Subcultures

It is necessary to identify one more reason of potential problems at school, encountered by mostly teenagers (high school students).

For some parents becomes very acute the problem of the interaction of the child at teenage age with one of the informal groups (goths, rappers, punks, metallers, etc.). It occurs mainly because at teenage age some children are trying to stand out from a lump and therefore to join to any informal group, looking for their place in it. Belonging to the informal group can cause a lack of understanding and conflicts not only by their peers but also by some teachers.

How to help

If your child is joined to any informal group, then do not try to convince him to get out of it, do not impose your own opinion. This period is for most teenagers passes by itself. All that you can do at this moment is just to try to control the child's clothing and his behavior.

Try to choose clothing for an informal group with the child. And choosing it together, offer him less aggressive style. Let him see your participation and support.

Offer a teenager to look beyond their chosen representatives of the informal group. Ask him does he like their clothing, how they look, talk and live. Thus, you will show not only your participation in the child's life, but also help him to think seriously about his own choice.

Each of the above-mentioned factors can along with other influence to occurrence of violations in the achievement and behavior of the child, become from the risk factor into the efficient cause of school problems. Most of all it influences over child not one factor, but several, and therefore the problem must be solved in the complex, connecting to it the teachers.
